Luke 2:39-51

There’s more going on than the classic, parental “I thought he was with you” miscommunication. It’s about our willingness to be interrupted and overruled by God’s purposes and plansIt’s a text about competing loyalties. Twelve-year old Jesus faced competing loyalties between his parents’ expectations and his heavenly Father’s business. Mary and Joseph faced competing loyalties between what they envisioned Jesus might be versus who He was actually called to be. As we conclude 2024 and enter 2025, Luke’s message speaks to us: what little deities compete for the devotion of our hearts? How do they intrude upon the better things God desires for us? And, when will we set them aside so that we can be filled with wisdom from above?
