Matthew 3:16 – 4:11

This passage is where Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. We’ll consider Satan’s first temptation—the pull of consumption and self-provision. It’s no surprise that Scripture presents Satan is as a serpent: a mobile digestive tract swallowing its prey whole. The serpent is pure appetite. But Jesus hungered for more than bread; his appetite craved the will of His Father. What are your cravings today? What did Jesus mean when he said: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God”?
