Jonah 4
It’s been said that the “ground is level at the foot of the Cross.” No one merits grace more than another. This is what Jonah struggles with in this passage. His biggest blunder was assuming he deserved God’s mercy more than Nineveh. This Sunday, we’ll get a front row seat at Jonah’s self-centered, self-righteousness. Better still, we’ll get a front row seat at God’s loving compassion—his gracious, merciful, slow to anger, and abundant love. In unexpected and unrestrained sympathy, Jesus Christ—the better Jonah—willingly entered our world on a search and rescue mission. Jesus came for weary and wayward people like you and me.
